CHAIRMAN'S CHAT

Hi everyone - we are just rushing through the year? It will be no time until the Christmas Concert for which incidentally Beth is doing an excellent job and dinosaurs such as myself are learning some excellent songs which I am sure will wow the audiences and bring the Christmas show right up to date, as well as some well-loved favourites which everyone will know. Just to remind you all again that the tickets are on sale now!! A reminder also that we are very close to the dinner dance so get your glad rags out. There has been terrific reviews of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels from SFD and from NODA and people in the town have stopped me to praise the set on several occasions - though it was nothing to do with me at all! I just want to mention the excellent acting workshop we had last weekend - it was great fun and we all learned a lot. Thanks again to Sheena and Wendy for getting the newsletter out - it isn't an easy job. See you all soon Pollyx

QUIZ

A good time was had by all at the Mustymind Quiz at the beginning of October, congratulations to the winning team comprising of Lucy Singleton and John together with Sarah Elliott and Rob Judge. Thanks to Will Scott-Robinson and “assistant” Vickie Hobbs for compiling and running the evening. Keep an eye out for details for next years’ quiz as places soon get filled to avoid disappointment!

BAZAAR AND RUMMAGE

The Awards Evening was very enjoyable as always, we didn’t come home with any awards but to receive a nomination is an accolade in itself. Congratulations to Kerry Peters who was nominated for Best Female Supporting Actor and all involved for the Gordon Neagle Memorial Cup nomination.

WORKSHOP Sunday 15th October

A good group of members attended the House of Fun Theatre Company's 'Finding the Character' workshop on Sunday 15th October and were not disappointed in the day. Tutor, David Richey, comes from a very accomplished career in the theatre and clearly had plenty of skills to pass on. Starting the morning with physical activities helped us all break down our barriers and warm us up on a chilly Sunday morning. What, at first impression, felt a little daft made an awful lot of sense when we came to applying the focussed skills we were learning to specific activities. The content of the course gave us all plenty to think about, new methods for finding instant character from the moment you step on stage, with everything from physical and emotional cues, to elements of imitation to help develop a good rounded character. Working as a team, we looked at the role of Lady M in the 'Scottish play' and all contributed different emotional elements which would help an actor build their performance of her. The group who attended all worked together really well and I felt helped us appreciate each others skills even more so than we might have previously done. Personally, I cannot recommend David highly enough and I very much hope that he will come back to work with us again. For all actors, the opportunity to reinforce the skills we may already have and learn new ones should never be missed and I should also pass on our grateful thanks to the CUDOS Presidents Trust Fund for subsidising the workshop making the whole day a snip at the price for what we gained from it. Definitely don't miss out next time! Vickie
