The House of Fun Theatre was founded in North Cornwall, in early 2001, by David Richey, writer, director, performer and workshop leader, and Rachael Richey, administrator. Since their onset, The House of Fun have strived to bring the excellence of live theatre to an audience who may otherwise have not experienced it, by travelling to Primary Schools around the country. Each of the four character-linked productions, have become extremely popular, with schools requesting return visits, year after year; in some cases, as many as twelve times! In 2009, The House of Fun expanded their repertoire to include Workshops, both for children, and adults.

It is generally agreed that one of the most magical experiences for any actor is that moment when the character they are playing truly comes alive; when the performer finds they are saying and doing things that are not in their normal nature because they are speaking from the thoughts of another. The Finding the Characterworkshop, a workshop for adults, will examine some of the different strategies you can use for finding that character and lifting them off the page. It will look at widening the range of characters that you feel you can play and will consider techniques for accessing them.

We will find ways to deconstruct, demystify and analyse a character in order to rebuild them in a way that can be played effectively and with truth. Using games, exercises, improvisation and script work, we will meet some very interesting people… and then get to take them home!

This workshop is of particular benefit to those who have not had the opportunity for formal training in drama, and is geared both to professional performers and amateur groups.

The facilitator, David Richey is an actor, director and writer, and currently Artistic Director of The House of Fun Theatre. He sets up and runs many creative and theatrical workshops, and conducts a great deal of on-going professional training through Equity. He is an experienced improviser and has worked with several comedy-impro teams – many of whose essential skills are brought into the workshop environment. As well as the huge benefits for performance development, his workshops are well known for their sense of fun!The cost will be £12 per head, spaces are limited to 12 on a first come first serve basis. You will need to bring a packed lunch but hot and cold drinks will be provided.

If you would like to take part please contact Kerry to book your place at kerry.peters@live.com or on 07557 447078 Payment must be paid in advance and by 7th October at the latest.

CHAIRMAN'S CHAT

It is with great sorrow that we have said goodbye to one of our longest serving members Daphne Penfold or Daffers as we called her. Daffers commitment to am dram in Crewkerne pre-dates CAOS and Crewkerne Players who merged to become CUDOS and she was in the group set up by the tireless Gwen Hopper. .Daffers was a great supporter of CUDOS performing with us for as long as she could and, until the last couple of years, never missed coming to see a show. Her enthusiasm was passed down to her son Will who shows the same love of theatre and throws himself into all we do - the love of all the members of C.U.D.O.S. is sent out to you Will, and Daphne could not have had a better son - I am sure she will be looking down and watching us all during Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. Daphne may be resting in peace - but I am not sure about the peace of the angels in the Heavenly Choir that she is certain to be singing with!!!! Polly

be singing along with along with with!! Polly

CHAIRMAN'S CHAT

Hi everyone, things have been busy this month with the rehearsals for DRS - which are going very well and I am loving the music - such good songs and fun to learn. I think it is going to be one of those shows that we will all talk about for years. Last weekend some of us sang up at Wadham to support the Relay for Life. Thank you so much Dendy for giving up your time to get us up to scratch - it is a shame that there was not as many singers as we would have liked but I'm sure we made a big noise for a good cause. Thanks to everyone who supported the Murder Mystery night, Ann and I do enjoy putting them together - It was good that finally it was Wendy who dunnit! Don’t forget to buy your tickets for DRS - it is going to be a great show. See you all soon. Polly

MURDER MYSTERY DINNER

A great night was had by all at the “School Reunion” taxing the old grey matter to solve who committed the murders and why, whilst enjoying a three-course dinner. A big thank you to Ann and Polly who devised the plot and organized the whole event, a huge number of hours goes into bringing a murder mystery to fruition. Thanks also to ‘the actors’ and those who helped prepare the food and did the washing up.

SET BUILD DIRTY ROTTEN SCOUNDRELS

Set building starts on the 19th August and then each Friday evening (7pm), Saturday and Sunday (10am) until the show.

Many hands make light work and it would be great if all members can come along to help, even if they are not actually in the show. You do not necessarily need to have building skills (although they would be an advantage) as there are always jobs to do such as painting, clearing up and making tea etc.

Congratulations to Keith Allington on gaining a BA (Hons) Degree in History from the Open University and is about to commence a PGCE. Well done Keith

We send our best wishes to Jessica Cummins and Keith Chinn and hope you both feel better soon.
